Born November 6th 1957 in Vienna, Austria, Helmut Neugebauer is eight years old
when he starts playing the piano, with twelve the guitar and at the age of fifteen
the flute which is besides the altosax his favourite instrument to this day.
After four years of studying grafics and painting at the Academy of applied Arts
in Vienna he switches back to music, starts playing the saxofon,decides to become a profesionell musician and goes to Los Angeles to study flute with James Newton for half a year.

Back in Vienna he works as a jazz and studio musician and becomes the leader of several projects a. o. DIE VÖGEL EUROPAS one of the first artrock bands in Austria and maybe one of the first who used samplers on stage (87 !) together with his partner at that time, Martin Stepanik, they invite FM Einheit from Einstürzende Neubauten;the result is the album BEST BEFORE (creative works –89).

Helmut develops an increasing interest in electronic music, drm’n’bass and sampling technology. During the nineties which results in concert tours all over Europe and invitations to big festivals (a.o.Töne-Gegentöne-Vienna,Les Temps Modernes. Le Mans, Festival Tardor-Barcelona, Artrockfestiaval Frankfurt, Dancas na cidade, Lissabon).
After Helmut met Elliott Sharp in 92, who had a big influence on him, he develops
a special live- equipment (soft and hardware) to get a maximum of “realtime processing possibilities“. The result is the album SHORT STORIES (z.o.o.media 92).

Solo appearances as THE FLAKE ATTRACTOR (97) and a multimedia-“realtime“-
Project with visual artist Fritz Fitzke:PICTURETRAX (99) follow.

His recent studio/live project is LOP:NOR a partly virtuell drm’n’bass flavoured funky
lounge jazzband. LOP NOR – ECLIPSE-EP (ecco chamber-2003) und 41°30’N 88°30’E CD(ecco chamber 2004)-concerthighlights in 04/05 JazzfestSaalfelden, Konfrontationen Nickelsdorf, Porgy & Bess-Short Cuts Festival featuring Karl Ritter

Further Helmut works as a composer for film/theater/dance in various contexts.
